Severe mental disorders represent huge costs to society in terms of pain and distress of the affected patients and their families. Severe mental disorders, indeed, cause a heavy burden due to morbidity and premature mortality, conditioning an increased risk of unemployment, infirmity, unsafe and unhealthy habits, and representing the main factor for suicide.


The project Neurobiology of the Psychoses intended to reduce the social and economical burden caused by severe mental disorders by favoring a better understanding and knowledge of the causes and the factors that affect the onset, the course and the outcome of severe mental disorders.
